Short, practical reads from the TDA team.

Pick your pillars, batch ideas, and fill a simple calendar in a single sitting.

Sample projects, a mini-audit pitch and starter packages that win local businesses.
Read the post →Planning, creating, replying, reporting and ads: the work behind a brand's feed.
Read the post →Posting every day feels impossible when you decide what to say every morning. The fix is to make all those decisions once. Block out one quiet afternoon, and you can leave with a full month planned.
Pillars are the themes a brand keeps returning to. A small bakery might choose behind-the-scenes, product highlights, customer moments and baking tips. Pillars keep the feed varied without making it random, and they make every later step faster.
Set a 30-minute timer and write as many post ideas as you can under each pillar. Don't judge them yet. Look at customer questions, comments, seasons, holidays and what competitors' audiences respond to. Then circle the best eight to ten per pillar.
You don't need fancy software. A spreadsheet with columns for date, platform, pillar, format, caption and status is enough. Spread your pillars across the week so no theme dominates, and mark key dates like paydays or product launches first.
One strong idea can become a carousel on Instagram, a short video on TikTok, a thread on X, a thoughtful post on LinkedIn and a status on WhatsApp Business. Adjust the format and tone for each platform, but keep the core message. This is how one afternoon fills thirty days.
Write captions in one sitting, design in another, then schedule everything with Meta Business Suite or a similar tool. At the end of the month, check which posts got saves, shares and messages, and plan more of what worked.
Planning is a skill clients pay for, because it turns social media from a daily stress into a steady system.
The hardest client to land is the first one, because you have no track record yet. The good news: you can build proof before anyone pays you, and small local businesses are often waiting for someone like you.
Pick three real or imagined brands, such as a salon, a restaurant and a fashion vendor. For each, create a short content plan, five designed posts and one short video. These become your portfolio, and they show clients exactly what you can do.
Your Instagram and LinkedIn are your shop windows. Use a clear photo, a bio that says what you do and who you help, and pinned posts that show your samples. If your own page looks neglected, clients will notice.
Find businesses with weak or inactive pages. Look at their profile and note three quick wins: a clearer bio, better photos, more consistent posting. Send these in a friendly DM or WhatsApp message. Leading with free, specific value beats "Do you need a social media manager?" every time.
Offer two or three clear packages, for example a set number of posts per week on one or two platforms, with or without community management. Clear scope makes it easy to say yes, and protects you from endless extra work.
Meet every deadline, send a short monthly report, and communicate early when something changes. After a good month, ask if they know another business owner who could use your help. Happy clients are your best marketing.
Your first client won't be your biggest, but it is the one that turns you from learner into professional.
Scroll past a brand's page and you see a few polished posts. What you don't see is the person behind them. A social media manager plans, creates, posts and grows a brand's presence across platforms, talks to its community, and reports on what's working, so the brand gets more visibility, more customers and more sales. Here is what that looks like day to day.
Good pages don't post at random. The manager maps out weeks of content ahead: which themes, on which platforms, on which days. Launches, holidays and paydays go in first, and everything else is spread around them.
Next comes making the content. That might be designing a carousel in Canva, filming a quick reel of a product, or editing photos a client sends over. The aim is simple: stop the scroll long enough for someone to care.
A beautiful image with a weak caption wastes the moment. Strong captions explain the offer, speak the audience's language and end with a clear next step, such as "send us a DM" or "tap the link to order".
Social media is a conversation. The manager answers questions, thanks people for kind words and handles complaints calmly. Quick, friendly replies are often what turns a curious follower into a paying customer.
Every week or month, the manager checks the numbers: reach, saves, shares, profile visits and messages. They then report back to the client in plain words: what worked, what didn't, and what to try next.
Organic posts build trust; small paid campaigns speed things up. Managers often set up simple ads on Instagram or Facebook, choose who sees them, and keep an eye on the budget so the money is well spent.
Put together, it is a role that mixes creativity, communication and a little bit of data. It is also a skill almost every business now needs, which is why it can become a real, remote career.
